UMKC Assistant Basketball Coach Resigns Over Louisville Recruiting Scandal

UMKC

A University of Missouri-Kansas City assistant basketball coach under fire for allegedly paying for strippers at another program has resigned.

An ESPN “Outside the Lines” report corroborates the allegations of an escort who says Andre McGee paid her to provide strippers and sex for University of Louisville players.

McGee, who has been on administrative leave from UMKC since Oct. 2, denies the allegations but said in a letter to UMKC Director of Athletics Carla Wilson he would step down for the good of the team.

“The university deserves a full-time assistant coach and I am not able to provide that to the basketball team while the false allegations against me are being investigated,” McGee wrote, according to a statement from UMKC.

UMKC is investigating allegations involving McGee’s recruiting activities at Louisville, where he was graduate assistant coach from 2010 to 2014.  The NCAA and the University of Louisville are also investigating.

UMKC spokesman John Martellaro says there will be no comment from the university while the investigation is underway.
