KCUR And The Kansas City Public Library Come Together For A Night Of Literary Magic

Mar 22, 2017

More than 100 literary nerds and public radio geeks packed recordBar Tuesday for reBOUND, an annual book exchange hosted by Generation Listen KC and the Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library

Like years past, the event kicked off with a book swap where guests brought loved (or unloved) tomes to send off to new homes. As guests perused and mingled, Library employees and volunteers helped them sign up for a personalized reading profile for book recommendations tailored through the library's website by librarians.

After everyone had a chance to swap choice reads (you're welcome, whoever picked up Evidence of Things Unseen by Marianne Wiggins), the night turned to a rousing three-round gauntlet of literary trivia.

It was a fierce competition, with questions ranging from topics like the Beat poetry of William Burroughs to the chess habits of certain members of the Wu Tang Clan. We even had book titles as emojis that guests had to decipher.

The final point tally was close and the three winning teams — Et Tu, Booké?, The Librarians and Feisty Female Protagonists — received some of the sweetest swag around for their efforts: KCUR tote bags, Half Price Books gift cards and good old fashioned bragging rights.
