Thousands of veterans and onlookers stood in the rain beneath Kansas City's towering World War One Monument and museum as Frank Buckles accepted gratitude and awards. Buckles is 107 years old. He was underage when he enlisted, only 16, but tricked his recruiter.

Blue Springs' David Cook Wins Idol

Kansas City, MO – David Cook is the latest winner of "American Idol." The 25-year-old rocker beat his competition crooner David Archuleta by a landslide, garnering 56 percent of the vote. For their final performances, judges praised Archuleta's performance and gave Cook a lukewarm response. More than 97 million votes were cast by phone and text message.

Kansas City, MO – Blue Springs native David Cook will find out if enough television viewers picked up the phone and voted to make him the next American Idol. Last night, Judge Paula Abdul applauded the 25 year old rocker.

Kansas City Council Expected to Discuss Museum Tax

Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Council's Finance and Audit committee Wednesday approved a measure asking voters in August to consider raising the museum property tax to 10 cents. The city currently has a 2 cent museum levy with funds going to the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall.

Black Heritage District Among Mayor's New Tools for Economic Development

KANSAS CITY, MO – This week Mayor Mark Funkhouser introduced a proposal in the city council to create a sales tax free zone in the area surrounding the 18th and Vine district. Kansas City, MO – Karen Staehling-Hampton and Olivier Pourquie have discovered a gene mutation that causes Jarcho-Levin Syndrome. It's a rare hereditary disorder that's characterized by severe vertebrae and rib deformities. Porquie says he first studied a group of genes responsible for spinal development in mice and chic embryos. And then:

Porquie: We looked after those genes in humans and found that one of these genes was disrupted in patients that have Jarchom Syndrome.
