Johnson County Works To Contain Whooping Cough Outbreak

Johnson County, Kansas is in the midst of a whooping cough outbreak. It's not as bad as in Washington State, where they’ve declared an epidemic of the disease.  But health workers and schools in the region have been taking extra steps to get a handle on the disease.

Waiting At The DMV Now A Full-Time Job

Everyone loves waiting at the DMV, but it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Right now the wait times at the Johnson County, Kan. offices in Mission and Olathe are 5 hours 4 minutes and 5 hours 15 minutes, respectively.

Pregnant Woman's Mystery Crash Resolved

The Kansas Highway Patrol has found the semi tractor-trailer rammed by a car last week in Johnson County. The truck driving team reportedly was unaware of the collision in which a pregnant woman was badly injured.

National Council On Criminal Justice Invites Johnson County To Participate

Kansas City – There were 40 applications, but the National Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Network picked only Johnson County to take part in it's efforts to study local criminal justice issues.

Johnson County Sheriff Frank Denning says the newly created network will combine the efforts of a number of law enforcement jurisdictions.

Kansas House Races Could Change Face Of Johnson County Delegation

Johnson County, Kansas – Most of the conversation about Tea Party candidates this year has focused on national seats, with some stunning upsets that affirm voter frustration with the persistent economic problems and the Obama administration.

The impact of the frustration is trickling down to local and state races. A majority of statehouse races in Kansas, for example, and countless races at the county and precinct level have conservative or independent candidates and are generating enthusiasm.

Overland Park Annexation Opponents Plan Appeal

Kansas City, Mo. – Opponents say they'll appeal the decision to approve Overland Park's annexation of 8 square miles of semi-rural land.

A Johnson County District Court last week ruled neither the city nor Johnson County did anything illegal by annexing the land.

But Norman Pishner a member of a committee that campaigned vigorously against the annexation, says opponents believe they can prove residents were denied due process.
