There's been a lively debate surrounding the proposed downtown convention hotel in Kansas City.

The $311 million development would cost the city $35 million to land, according to city documents. The project would receive some tax breaks from the city, which also will provide some tax revenue to help finance the project.

Kansas City boasts being one of the best cities to launch a startup. But the city that hopes to be America’s “most entrepreneurial city,” is still missing one key ingredient — seed capital to get young businesses of the ground.

KCSourceLink, which is a network of organizations that support the creation of small businesses, released a study last week detailing the city’s shortcomings when it comes to funds available for entrepreneurs.

The Missouri Court of Appeals' Western Court ruled Tuesday against the Kansas City, Missouri School District, now known as the KCPS.


In Kansas, 54 school districts are currently suing the state for cutting their funding. The state has budgeted $3,800 per student for the coming school year.
