The Demise Of Doo Wop

The Drifters.

This week on Cyprus Avenue, host Bill Shapiro turns back the clock for a taste of Doo Wop, featuring The Drifters, Dion, the Beach Boys & more.

Legend has it that Doo Wop music got its famous nonsense-name from a 1954 record for a song called "Never," by a Los Angeles-based group called Carlyle Dundee & The Dundees.

New Songs From Leonard Cohen's 'Old Ideas'

Chris Boland / www.distantcloud.co.uk

This week on Cyprus Avenue, hear songs from Leonard Cohen’s new album "Old Ideas."  The prolific folk artist's latest album, released January 31, features ten new tracks.

Cohen is perhaps best known for his stirring lyrics, which tell stories with equal amounts of irony and romance.  On "Old Ideas," Cohen once again delves into the mental and physical lives of humans and their relationships, but makes use of a more varied, less electronic sound than on his other late albums.
