Web Extra: An Interview with Mandy Patinkin

"An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin" reunites two Tony Award®-winning performers for the first time since they performed together in the original Broadway cast of "Evita."

In a phone call from New York before heading to Kansas City for performances, Mandy Patinkin talked about the origins of the show, why "Carousel" is so important, his first venture into musical theater, and his fond memories attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

On Selecting the Songs for "An Evening"

"We were really interested in finding a story about two people...we then opened the floodgates to look at all the endless material out there for not just stuff that we knew, or that we were familiar with, but things that we weren't familiar with."

Getting Introduced to "Carousel" as a High School Student

"'Carousel' actually became a monumental cornerstone of my life...that just hit a light bulb, a nerve in me, that just never went out."

Recollections of Days at KU

"Oh, my God, I so loved it, particularly all the friends I made there."
