Kansas City, MO – A town hall meeting tonight in Kansas City takes on the topic of rising property taxes. In recent years, as Jackson County reassessed property values, property owners have seen a steep increase in taxes and the Crossroads Arts District, pioneered by artists, has been hit hard. Jeff Becker is the executive director of the Arts Incubator on 18th Street, which provides low-cost studio spaces to artists. Becker says so far, his landlord has not passed the increases on, but he thinks it's only a matter of time.
Jeff Becker: "I think they've tripled since we've been here...next assessment has quadrupled since the last assessment."
Tonight's forum is one in a series of Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser's weekly town hall meetings and also includes Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders. It starts at 6 at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center in the Crossroads (2012 Baltimore, Kansas City, Missouri).
