Sustainability In Pictures And Words

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s a picture embedded with lots of words worth?  Quite a lot in terms of connecting with an audience, according to Douglas Gayeton, who brought his California-based Lexicon of Sustainability project to Iowa at the end of May.  The non-profit creates large collage images of farmers and their farms overlain with text, explaining some aspect of sustainability that the farmer practices.  Find out more here.

Kansas Governor Limited In Overturning University Budget Cuts

Kansas legislators passed a budget with more than $60 million in cuts over two years for the state's universities. In Kansas, the governor has the power of line item veto, which can sometimes be used to block cuts, but it looks like Kansas Governor Sam Brownback can't block the higher education cuts.  Read more about why here.
