Three Charged In Death Of Kansas Teen
Kansas City, MO – Three young men are in the Johnson County Kansas jail, charged with robbing, kidnapping and murdering an 18 year old woman from Overland Park. Authorities will not talk about alleged method or motive.
It's not clear where Keighly Ann Alyea was killed. She was last known to be alive in Kansas, her body found Monday, almost exactly a week later, in Cass County Missouri near the tiny town of East Lynn in a farm field.
Regardless where she was killed, says Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe, he can prosecute. He says it took several days for her to be reported missing.
Howe: "There's many times caution on the parts of family and friends if someone is not available for a period of time. And because of those situations, it puts law enforcement behind the eight ball, so to speak."
After the first court appearances of the accused, friends of the victim talked with reporters, describing an abusive relationship Alyea had had with a former boyfriend she said she was meeting the night she vanished. 18 year old Dustin Hilt of Shawnee is charged, as are 18 year old Gerald Calbeck of Merriam and 21 year old Joseph Mattox of Overland Park. All asked for a judge to appoint them lawyers.
