Kansas City, Kansas – Kansas City Missouri's apparent loss is Wyandotte county's gain. Negotiations are free to begin between the Unified Government and owners of the Wizards for a soccer stadium at Village West next to Kansas Speedway.

The commission meeting in downtown Kansas City Kansas was taking place as Kansas City Missouri city council members were meeting across state line, taking note in dismay. The KCK decision appears to dash hopes for a Wizards stadium at the old Bannister Mall site. Unified Government Mayor Joe Reardon spoke before the commission voted unanimously in favor of a memorandum of understanding with the developer. About the $414 million project of a stadium and Cerner Corporation office park, the mayor said-
"From the construction that will go on, for sustained construction for a five year period, to the ongoing economic vitality that will occur because of those that will be employed at this place, it's going to be something that benefits not just Wyandotte County and Kansas City Kansas but this region for the long haul. "
Remaining is approval from state of Kansas to use existing state sales tax revenue through STAR bonds. Developers would hope to break ground this Fall. Still, there are negotiations ahead.
