Senator Talent teams with local activist Alvin Sykes aiming to solve civil rights murders
By Frank Morris
Kansas City, MO – U.S. Rep. Jim Talent, and civil rights activist Alvin Sykes met last week in Kansas City to celebrate passage of a "cold case" bill that would establish an Unsolved Crimes Section within the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. The bill was inspired by Sykes, who was instrumental in the government's reopening of the Emmett Till case, a 14-year-old who was murdered in 1955 after being accused of whistling at a white woman.
