Kansas City, Missouri, City Manager Troy Schulte says, "There's no shortage of projects or activities going on in a city of 317 square miles."

Segment 1: Why female voices are often overlooked by military historians.

Women make up approximately 15 percent of the military, but they still face obstacles different from their male counterparts. Today, we explored the history of women in the military, including the challenges American female service members have faced in recent years.

Segment 2 beginning at 19:37: Kansas City's chief administrator discusses development, crime and budgeting.

There's a lot happening in Kansas City, Missouri, right now, from a redesigned airport terminal to a new downtown convention center. But the people behind these changes have a lot to contend with, including each other. We spoke with Kansas City's city manager for an update on local projects and the state of our municipal government.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
