Royals Opening Day At The K

It’s time for peanuts, cracker jacks and rooting for the home team ... so we’re heading out to the ballgame!

Friday is the home-opener for our boys in blue. Up to Date broadcast from the ballpark a few hours before the first pitch goes out to give you a behind-the-scenes perspective into opening day at the Kauffman Stadium.

Steve Kraske talks with head groundskeeper Trevor Vance about how his team keeps the field looking so green and with Don Costante, senor director of CrownVision, about everything that fans see and hear in the stadium.

We'll visit with Royals Hall of Fame director Curt Nelson about some baseball memorabilia and our most notable players, long-time season ticket-holder Steve Pack about his 41 years sticking with the team through thick and thin, and with KCUR sports contributor Greg Echlin about the team's players and ball club's outlook this season.

Stephen Steigman is director of Classical KC. You can email him at Stephen.Steigman@classicalkc.org.
When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
