A Quarter Of Missouri Voters Expected To Cast Ballots
Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan says voter turnout should be around 25 percent for Tuesday’s party primaries. That’s slightly higher than the 23 percent turnout two years ago.
Carnahan says the estimates are compiled by local election officials across Missouri.
“In 2008, I can tell you the prediction was for somewhere over 30 percent and it turned out to be around 19 percentso it’s very hard to predict what’s going to happen in these primary elections,” says Carnahan.
Some of the more hotly-contested races this year include the GOP primary for U.S. Senate and the Democratic primary for Missouri’s First Congressional Seat. Voters will also decide the so-called “Right to Pray” amendment to the State Constitution.
For more pre-election reading, some Missouri public media organizations have put together a voting and elections guide.
