Preventing Sexual Violence And Changing The Rape Culture

Has America created a culture of sexual violence? We talk about how this country’s social norms sanction rape and the role that men have in solving this serious issue.

Guests:

  • Jeff Bucholtz is director of "We End Violence" workshops and co-president of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council.
  • Dr. Joah Williams is a psychology professor at UMKC and the director of the Stress and Trauma Evaluation and Prevention Science Laboratory.

Jeff Bucholtz presents 'A Way From Violence' at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at the Pierson Auditorium on the UMKC Campus.  Admission is free.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
Kansas City needs journalists who show up not just on people’s worst days, but on their best ones — and the boring ones in between. I build relationships across the metro, so our newsroom can bring you critical information when times are tough, and seek out moments of joy to celebrate. Email me at lisa@kcur.org.
