Passing

Korla Pandit was a musical prodigy who had his own TV show in the 1950s. He claimed to be from New Delhi, India and shaped Americans' ideas about Indian music, but he actually grew up in Columbia, Missouri, with black parents.

A new documentary, Korla, tells his story (there's a free screening at the Ragtag Cinema in Columbia on Tuesday, September 29). We invite the author of a recent New Republic article about Pandit to discuss his fascinating life.

Guest:

  • Liesl Bradner, freelance journalist

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
