Shawnee Mission, Kansas – The Shawnee Mission School District will promote a 22 year veteran of the district to it's highest office before the next school year. Gene Johnson has long been involved with school programs. He was an elementary school principal, director of elementary programs, associate superintendent for special programs, and an associate superintendent for secondary education. He worked closely with outgoing superintendent Marjorie Kaplan for 16 years. Johnson says he plans to uphold the tradition of excellence in the Shawnee Mission schools, a tradition built on an understanding of what makes a good teacher.
