Mural Artist Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson

In 1987, Michael Jackson became the first artist to release an album with five songs that made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also the year that Alexander Austin found his way to Kansas City, and he's been transforming windowless and scarred walls of neglected Kansas City buildings into works of art ever since.

Kansas City, MO – Alexander Austin's work ranges from the expansive 18,000 square foot mural in the Power and Light District, to his homage to the founders of the Gates barbeque empire on 12th Street. KCUR's Susan Wilson caught up with Austin outside of I Am You Entertainment, an arts and entertainment company located at 18th & Troost. He said the idea for this mural started when his friend introduced him to I Am You's Coordinator, Damon Lee Patterson, who hosts a regular open mic night for artists of all kinds. .
