Modern Day Renaissance Man Terry Allen's "Tables and Angels" at the Belger

An exhibition at the Belger Arts Center called "Beneath the Surface - Excavating the Belger Collection" focuses on works by 10 of the artists in the collection, including Terry Allen. Allen was born in Wichita, Kansas and raised in the West Texas town of Lubbock. He's been described as a Renaissance man, working in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, drawing, video, and installations. By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – Terry Allen is also considered an innovator of the alt-country scene, a musician and songwriter whose songs have been covered by bands like Little Feat.

In downtown Kansas City, Terry Allen's controversial public art piece, "Modern Communication," is a bronze sculpture of a businessman, standing on a briefcase; a tie covers his eyes, his fingers are in his ears, and there's a shoe in his mouth. KCUR's Laura Spencer explores another of Allen's works, "Tables and Angels," that's been causing a bit of a stir.
