Missouri Election Results: Kansas City Voters Easily Approve Sales Tax Renewal

Kansas City voters approved/rejected a 1 percent sales tax renewal. Part of the revenue from the tax will go toward replacing the aging Buck O'Neil Bridge.

With ballots devoid of hot-button issues, Tuesday was a quiet election day throughout the Kansas City area. 

Voter turnout was around 10 percent in Platte, Clay and Cass counties — Jackson County had the highest turnout at 15 percent.

In Kansas City, Missouri turnout was just shy of 8 percent. 

Kansas City voters easily passed a 1 percent sales tax renewal for capital improvement that included $5 million a year set aside to replace the city's aging Buck O'Neil Bridge.

Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City 1 percent sales tax renewal for capital improvements: 

YES — 79 percent

NO — 21 percent

Jackson County

Voters easily re-elected Eileen Weir, who ran unopposed, as mayor of Independence, although around 900 voters, or 10 percent, selected write-in candidates.

Independence Use Tax:

YES — 39 percent

NO — 61 percent

Lee's Summit Mayor:

Ron Williams — 29 percent

Bill Baird — 47 percent

Robert Binney — 23 percent

Cass County

Belton Use Tax:

YES — 31 percent

NO — 69 percent

Midway School Bond Election:

YES — 60 percent

 NO — 40 percent

Pleasant Hill School Bond Election:

YES — 81 percent

Claycomo 1 percent sales tax for general fund purposes:

YES — 53 percent

NO — 46 percent

Liberty use tax:

YES — 70 percent

NO — 30 percent

Liberty School Bond Election:

YES — 82 percent

Smithville Mayor:

Brian Fullmer — 42 percent

Damien Boley — 58 percent

Platte City Mayor:

Frank Offutt — 67 percent

Bobby Vann — 32 percent

(there were two write-in votes, which accounts for the missing percent.)

City of Weatherby Lake Mayor:

Patrick J. Botbyl —44 percent

Steve Clark — 56 percent

City of Lake Waukomis Mayor:

Dennis Todd — 76 percent

Robert M. Walker — 22 percent

(Five write-in votes account for the missing 2 percent)
