Management Change For The Chiefs
Kansas City, MO – Longtime Kansas City Chiefs executive Carl Peterson has resigned. He held the titles of president, general manager and CEO. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt made the announcement through a written statement Monday. Peterson was unavailable for comment. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.
The announcement took place on the heels of a heartbreaker against the San Diego Chargers, the Chiefs' 12th loss in 14 games this season.
Earlier this season, when Carl Peterson was asked about the Chiefs' struggles, he said, "We knew when we set upon this new philosophy of going young that we were going to have some bumps in the road. I didn't anticipate maybe as many potholes in the road that we've hit."
The Carl Peterson era began in 1989. During that time the Chiefs won four AFC West titles, but failed to reach the Super Bowl and haven't won a playoff game since 1993.
Clark Hunt says a search will begin right away for a new general manager.
