Man Charged With Assaulting An Officer

bigstock.com

A twice-wounded Kansas City, Missouri man is recovering, under guard, in a Kansas City, Kansas hospital. The man was shot by police and is charged with assault on an officer.

An affidavit given by police alleged that 45-year-old Elliott Robertson tried to drive over an officer who had told him to raise his hands while sitting in a car early yesterday Wednesday near 9th and The Paseo.

Court documents say the Robertson car looked like one that had earlier eluded police and the policeman in the car’s path fired a shot. His partner fired two more times.

The wounded Robertson was found and arrested by Kansas City Kansas police within hours. Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor Julie Hamilton said Robertson can agree to be extradited from Kansas or fight it.

“It’ll take sometimes up to 90 days to get that accomplished. And then once that occurs, I believe our sheriffs will go get him, and bring him back here,” said Hamilton.

The charges include assault on a law officer which carries conviction penalties from 10 years to life. The charging document notes the defendant is known by no fewer than 7 other names and so may also be thought of as Dwayne Donato or Jarome White.
