Local Listen: Ida McBeth

http://americanjazzmuseum.org/

After decades on the scene, Ida McBeth's dusky voice and emotional delivery have reached legendary status in Kansas City. It's not just her soulful combination of blues, jazz and gospel styles that delights audiences, either; she's made a habit of surrounding herself with a band that knows how to really dig into a groove. Go on, we dare you to find someone who has seen McBeth perform and doesn't love her music.

Ida McBeth will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and will perform at this season's final installment of Jammin' at the Gem at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. For more information, visit the American Jazz Museum website.

KCUR contributor Bill Brownlee blogs about Kansas City's jazz scene at plasticsax.com.
As culture editor, I oversee KCUR’s coverage of race, culture, the arts, food and sports. I work with reporters to make sure our stories reflect the fullest view of the place we call home, so listeners and readers feel primed to explore the places, projects and people who make up a vibrant Kansas City.
