Kansas City, Missouri – A non profit group called The Friends of Arrow Rock and residents of the village are plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed late Monday that hopes to stop the construction of a large industrial hog farm, or CAFO. The Department of Natural Resources has granted a local farmer-- who contracts with an Iowa company - permission to build the facility 2 miles outside of Arrow Rock. Arrow Rock has a population of 79 and the farm would bring 48-hundred hogs to the area. The suit alleges the operation would create such a stink that it would destroy the ambience of the Missouri River town and steer visitors away. All of Arrow Rock is on the National Historic Register and has an important place in pre-Civil War history.
