Lawrence Companies Compete to Offer Free Internet

KANSAS CITY, MO – The monthly broadband bill is as common as the light bill in many area households. But some can't afford to get online at all, which educators say is creating a digital divide between haves and have-nots. In Lawrence, Kansas, two companies are battling over who should provide free broadband service to the needy, and the central issue may be how they divide the lucrative for-pay internet service market. KCUR's Steve Bell reports.
