The Arts KCFund, like a United Way for the arts, raised nearly $732,000 during its annual spring workplace giving campaign and recently announced its latest round of grant recipients. KCUR's Laura Spencer reports.

Twenty established arts organizations, like the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Unicorn Theatre, will receive $413,000 in Ovation Grants for operating expenses. And for 45 smaller projects and programs, like the Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company and the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, it's nearly $161,000 in Catalyst Grants. The Arts KC fund also distributes more than $32,000 in Inspiration grants in the spring, summer and fall to artists and arts professionals. The fund is administered by the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City. Laura Spencer, KCUR News.

Kansas City is known for its style of jazz, influenced by the blues, as the home of Walt Disney’s first animation studio and the headquarters of Hallmark Cards. As one of KCUR’s arts reporters, I want people here to know a wide range of arts and culture stories from across the metropolitan area. I take listeners behind the scenes and introduce them to emerging artists and organizations, as well as keep up with established institutions. Send me an email at lauras@kcur.org or follow me on Twitter @lauraspencer.
