The University of Kansas Hospital kicked off a campaign Monday to raise private money for a new $250 million building on its main Kansas City, Kan., campus.
The Hospital aims for $100 million in donations for the "Cambridge North" project.
At a hospital leadership meeting Monday afternoon, Burns and McDonnell chairman and CEO Greg Graves and his wife, Deanna, announced their pledge of $1 million for the building, as well as a Burns and McDonnell Foundation pledge of $2.5 million.
Graves emphasized that the public institution would need private help to reach its $250 million goal.
“In today’s economic environment, a lot of that is going to have to from philanthropy,” Graves said.
Cambridge North will serve as home to neuroscience and surgical oncology facilities on the northeast corner of 39th and Cambridge streets.
KU Hospital says the new 92-bed building would staff 100 new physicians and provide 600 new jobs.
According to KU Hospital president and CEO Bob Page, there is currently no timetable for construction.
“The construction schedule will depend on philanthropy,” explains Page.
