David George is a veteran Kansas City rocker.
He first gained renown with Kansas City indie bands such as Moaning Lisa, and achieved international notoriety when he worked as a member of John Fogerty's touring band a few years ago (he's the one playing the white guitar in this video of "Ramble Tamble"). He's also the creator of the seasonal musical "Christmas Ain't a Drag," and he wrote and performed "Hey, Kansas City," a rousing hometown booster anthem employed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015.
On Friday he celebrates the release of a new, six-song EP called "Lesson of Love." Like all of the songs on the record, its title track is big: A simmering bass line, sassy horns, screaming electric guitars and urgent vocals by George and Shanna Jones intertwining on the colossal soul-steeped rock anthem.
A large band helps George replicate that massive sound on Friday: vocalist Shanna Jones; guitarists John L Johnson and Skeet Hanks; pedal steel guitarist Joshua Quint; saxophonist Jade Brown; trumpeter Alex Caselman; trombonist Anthony Ritchie; bassist Erik Voeks; and drummer Pat Tomek.
