KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce officials announced yesterday the names of five civic leaders who will head the campaign to preserve Kansas City, Missouri's earnings tax at a Union Station news conference.

Kansas lawmakers are looking at a bill to toughen penalties for drunk-driving convictions.

The Missouri House has given first-round approval to legislation that would require drug testing for some welfare recipients.

A budget-cutting bill received its first airing in the Kansas Legislature . Kansas Governor Sam Brownback's proposed "freeze" bill is being heard by Senate and House committees this week.
