KCUR 89.3 Takes Home Multiple Top Honors At Missouri Broadcasters Awards

Jun 4, 2018

KCUR 89.3 won multiple first place awards and an honorable mention at the 2018 Missouri Broadcasters Association Awards over the weekend.

In the large market division, KCUR received top honors for newscast, public affairs/documentary reporting, feature reporting and news series. The station also received an honorable mention for news website with kcur.org.

The Missouri Broadcasters Association has done work on behalf of broadcasters across the state since 1948. Annually, they recognize the best in broadcast television and radio work in Missouri.

"Over the past year, the KCUR’s news teams has focused on going deeper on stories that affect the people and communities of Kansas City," says KCUR News Director Maria Carter. "It’s an honor to be recognized for those efforts."

Two of the awards recognize in-depth series KCUR reported in 2017 over a number of months. This project, reported by Elle Moxley and Barb Shelly, looked at student transience in Kansas City and its affect on the classroom and students' abilities to learn. Andrea Tudhope's award-winning installment of KCUR's series The Argument took a look at the role of domestic violence in a Kansas City murder.

KCUR Newscaster Lisa Rodriguez also won two top awards. One for a feature story about Kansas City's 'Exiled' forest, and another for a complete newscast.

Editor's note: KCUR 89.3 is a non-commercial radio station serving the Kansas City metro area. The station serves a bi-state broadcast region and is committed to reporting on both sides of the state line.
