Kansas City, MO – Experts in global health are meeting in Kansas City to discuss how to help alleviate the disparities in healthcare around the world. One focus of the symposium is to involve cities across the country to make a difference in international healthcare. KCUR's Kelley Weiss reports.

World health authorities from the United Nations to the local Center for Practical Bioethics are meeting in Kansas City to put the saying "Think Globally, Act Locally" into action at the Global Health Symposium. Paul Farmer, of the Partners in Health, says that in order to eliminate the diseases and poverty killing people around the world cities need to work together.
Paul Farmer: "A lot of scholars and experts are already involved but we need a really broad movement and a broad movement is not going to occur without much greater engagement of everyone."
Farmer says using the strengths and resources in Kansas City could contribute to improving global healthcare by helping provide medical software, vaccines and medical research.
