KC-MO Interviews Finalists for Superintendent

Kansas City, MO – The four candidates for Kansas City Missouri school superintendent will answer the community's questions at forums this evening and be interviewed by the board tomorrow morning. Bernard Taylor's last day is June 30th, the school board hopes to decide on a new superintendent tomorrow. KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross has more.

The school board interviewed 10 out of a pool of 36 candidates last week, and settled on four who seem best prepared to succeed in Kansas City. Audrey Donaldson was part of the transition team for the Superintendent in St. Louis - she has administrative experience in Washington DC and Chicago. Aquine Jackson is Chief Academic Officer of Milwaukee Public Schools, and Johnny Brown resigned 2 years ago from a rocky tenure as superintendent in Dekalb County, Georgia. William Harner spent almost 30 years in the military, before becoming a superintendent in South Carolina. School Board President David Smith says they want the public's opinions on the candidates.

TAPE: SMITH: We know we have the decision to make at the end of the day but we want people to know who we have brought forward, we want them to offer their input, get a chance to ask questions and start to feel comfortable.

Candidates will participate in a forum this evening at Paseo Academy (May 25, 6pm) and will be interviewed in public by the school board tomorrow morning at the Gem Theater (May 26, 8am).
