A Kansas race that is catching attention from political junkies around the country has Kansas City-area voters captivated, too.
That’s according to feedback we heard on social media in response to our Tell KCUR question of the week. We asked, “What’s the most important political race to you in election 2014? Why?”
“KS Gov race for sure! Need child advocates,” Alexis Ceule (@AlexisCeule) tells us on Twitter.
Most of the feedback echoed Ceule, pointing to the contest between sitting Gov. Sam Brownback, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Paul Davis, the Kansas House Minority Leader.
The race is being highly watched, partly because the candidates have been close in early polls. A contingent of Republicans in Kansas aren’t supporting Brownback this election because of his policy surrounding tax cuts, spending cuts and the implications on the Kansas budget.
“If Brownback prevails, his victory will be seen as an endorsement of the Kansas experiment in supply-side economics,” Dan Balz wrote Monday in The Washington Post. “If he falls short, Republican governors in other states are likely to take his defeat as a warning about going too far to the right.”
In Shawnee, Kan., Nathan Eberline, of Shawnee, Kan., says he’ll also be watching the race closely.
“The Kansas gubernatorial race is critical. Governors not only lead but can harmonize each of the government layers for better service,” Eberline (@neberline) tweeted.
