The fulfillment of a "long-term dream." That's how the new owners of The Pitch describe their acquisition of the Kansas City alternative magazine, which was announced Tuesday.
Carey Media, LLC, says it closed a deal to buy The Pitch from Tennessee-based SouthComm on the final day of 2017. SouthComm bought the magazine in 2011.
Records on the Missouri secretary of state's website show Carey Media was incorporated in Kansas City in December.
In a statement, new Pitch owners Stephanie and Adam Carey say they plan to keep the magazine "extremely focused on Kansas City journalism." The pair, who both graduated from high school in Johnson County, tout their personal connection to the metro area and to the magazine itself. The pair refers to Stephanie Carey as a "long-time reader of the publication."
"This transaction means that The Pitch will be owned and operated locally for the first time in nearly 20 years," the statement says.
Carey Media says it plans to continue operating The Pitch out of its Main Street offices. Long-time reporter David Hudnall has been announced as the magazine's new editor.
Last year, The Pitch moved from a weekly publication schedule to a monthly format.
