Kansas City Citizen Satisfaction Results Best Ever

City of Kansas City. MO

Kansas Citians are more satisfied than ever, according to the latest Citizen Satisfaction Survey. And the city held events Thursday to thank both the citizenry and the employees who delivered the customer-pleasing performance.

Kate Bender of the office of performance management says the best gains were in the most important areas.

In particular this year we saw really substantial increases in our – what we call high-level questions: Kansas City as a place to live, Kansas City as a place to work, and also reached a higher perception of city services,” she told the city council Thursday.

The survey is available on line at www.kcmo.gov/satisfaction

Some highlights:

Sidewalk and street maintenance is still a top concern. And one with lots of room for improvement, though most residents think streets in their own neighborhood are pretty good .

There was strong interest in public transit, with only 39 percent thinking it is adequate at present levels.

About 60 percent of the sample was satisfied with police department services, but less than half were satisfied with other neighborhood services .

A first-time question about interest in bike lanes on city streets drew a very strong response.

Results were mixed on KCI, with 71 percent satisfied with the airport, but declines in satisfaction with availability and pricing of parking there.

Service increases since the last Citizen Satisfaction Survey:

  • Quality of police services (+3%)
  • Quality of Health Department services (+2.6%)
  • Maintenance of streets, sidewalks and infrastructure (+2.4%)
