Johnson County Reports Probable Case of Swine Flu; Mo. Officially Confirms First Case
Kansas City, MO – Johnson County has a probable case of swine flu, and Missouri has officially confirmed its first case. KCUR's Elana Gordon has more.
The Johnson County case would mark the third in Kansas, if confirmed by the CDC. Health officials have yet to release any details about it, but say the patient's currently being treated. Meanwhile, Missouri confirmed its first case of swine flu in a Platte County woman who recently traveled to Mexico. Health officials say that patient's recovering well. During a stop in Kansas City earlier today, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said residents here should be concerned, but not alarmed. He says the situation hasn't disrupted any of his weekend plans.
NIXON: "I'm going to church on Sunday. It's important to me, and I consider it a part of my health."
Nixon did advise that anyone who is feeling sick, stay home. He also said the state health lab will soon be receiving special test kits to help speed up the detection process.
Funding for health care coverage on KCUR has been provided by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
