Green Sewers For Kansas City?

Kansas City, MO – Kansas City Missouri is under pressure from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to reduce the amount of untreated storm-water and sewage being discharged into area waterways. The city plan was due July 31st, but the city council voted to petition the EPA and MDNR for a 6 month extension to draft a model "green" overflow control plan. This week the extension was granted.

Over the next 6 months residents will be hearing more about green solutions as the water services department, city council and EPA discuss local demonstration projects and techniques that use them.

KC Currents' Eugenio Taboada went out to learn more about the overflow control plan and see some green solutions in action. He toured Lynn Hinkle's rain garden in the Northland, and visited the award winning green roof on the TWA headquarters building with David Dowell. Lynn Hinkle is the President of Astra Communications and media contact for the 10,000 Rain Gardens initiative. David Dowell is an architect and principal at El Dorado architects.
