FOOD CRITICS REVIEWED RESTAURANTS:
Renee Kelly's (12401 Johnson Drive)
Gordon Biersch (100 East 14th Street)
Happy hour buffet, sliders
Snow & Co. (1815 Wyandotte St)
Terrific for summer, drinks were wonderful.
Extra Virgin (1900 Main Street)
Islamorada Fish Company, Bass Pro Shops (18001 Bass Pro Drive, Independence)
A restaurant located inside a sporting goods store. It's good food, but more about the experience for sure. "It's the kind of place where if I had 17 kids I would be comfortable taking them here."
The Boot (415 Westport Rd)
Very good small plates you can share. Communal table in the middle. Emily is in love with the #4 cocktail, with bison vodka.
Le Fou Frog (400 E 5th St)
Food was fabulous, I would go back in a minute. You think it's going to be classic French, but it's anything but... very funky and entertaining. Slow service. Amazing happy hour, with half off entrees.
Nara (1617 Main Street)
Czar Bar + Good You (1531 Grand Boulevard)
Good You has put down some roots at Czar Bar.
Capitol Grill (4740 Jefferson Street)
New Spring plates menu for lunch.
Forks for Corks benefit for Harvesters is Thursday, April 26 in the Grand Ballroom at the Kansas City Convention Center. More info here.
Winstead's grilled cheese on rye: It's my ultimate vegetarian dish. It's fast, and greasy.
YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS:
Sara wrote on Facebook: "If you make it up to Lawrence, Terrebonne Cafe serves the absolute best Po' boys! Seriously as good as the ones I've had in New Orleans. Perfectly soft french bread, delicious remoulade sauce, with options like shrimp, crawfish, gator, andouille sausage, served with homemade hushpuppies! I've introduced many who are now addicted."
Stella wrote us definitively: "You cannot speak about great sandwiches in Kansas City without talking about the Jack Barbecue or the Reuben at FUD. For people even other than vegans, both of these are phenomenal."
Frank wrote us on Facebook: "La Sala's on 5th in KCMO. The flavors that come together when you bit into a Poor Boy or a Rich Boy or a Supreme are so perfect. Garlic and spices from the meat, that beautiful Roma bread, mayonnaise, tomato, onion... now that's a sandwich!"
Cassie writes: "The best sandwich I've had recently is the Bondo's fried pork tenderloin at Nick and Jake's. It's a fried pork tenderloin topped on an egg bun, topped with cinnamon apples, pit ham, white cheddar, and chipotle may. It was awesome."
Candis wrote us on Facebook to recommend tortas at Tropicana, 830 Southwest Boulevard. "Have a popsicle for dessert!" she recommends.
On Facebook Jill writes, "some of the best muffalettas come from Pandolfi's Deli. Any other good muffalettas out there?"
Caitlyn wrote on Facebook: "Croque madam at Westport Cafe (especially late night)."
Nancy suggests "Mcgonigle's: EVERYTHING, but their Pork Tenderloin is a winner--it's new."
Linda K. learned about Genessee Royale on our show, and since then has fallen in love with their chicken salad sandwich.
Aaron wrote to tell us about Barley's Brewhaus' "outstanding Monte Cristo during Sunday brunch."
Ray in KC writes, "A surprising and robust sandwich is at the Brookside Market deli: turkey breast with brie, golden delicious apple slice, cranberry mustard on a croissant."
Dave called in to suggest the Spicy #1 at Carollo's in River Market.
