Election Montage Captures Campaign Excitement

Kansas City, Missouri – As the election week comes to a close, experts and analysts are just beginning the process of sorting through the data from a season that changed the political landscape in the country.

In Missouri and Kansas, the statehouses added to their Republican majorities, mirroring a national trend. The National Conference of State Legislators reports that a dozen states saw their legislatures flip from Democratic to Republican. Hundreds of Republicans got elected.

In Missouri, Republicans picked up 17 seats giving them a 65% majority in the House.

On the Kansas side, Republicans added seats to an existing majority, and also took ownership of every statewide office.

17 term Congressman Ike Skelton from Missouri's 4th district fell to political newcomer, Vicki Hartzler.

Stephene Moore, hoping to succeed her retiring husband, Dennis Moore, in the 3rd Congressional district in Kansas, lost by more than many expected to Republican Kevin Yoder.

KCUR's Laura Ziegler pulled together some of the tape our reporters and producers collected during the campaign, and on election night, and produced this audio postcard.
