Up To Date's Indie, Foreign & Doc Critics' 'Three To See,' March 11-13

Awards season is over, which means there's a fresh crop of independent, foreign and documentary films for you to take in this weekend.  With pollen counts so high, who wants to go outside anyway? Whether you're looking for something creepy or something sweet, Up To Date's film critics have a suggestion for you.

Hitchcock/Truffaut, PG-13

  • Filmmakers talk about how Francois Truffaut's book "Cinema According to Hitchcock" influenced their work.

Embrace of the Serpent, Not Rated

  • An Amazonian healer and two scientists who work together over 40 years to find a sacred healing plant in the Colombian jungle.

Lady in the Van, PG-13

  • "Temporary" turns to years as a parked van remains in a London driveway in this true story about the relationship between Alan Bennett and Miss Shepherd.

The Witch, R

  • Unsettling but not graphic horror film about an unknown presence ripping at a religiously conservative family in the 1600s.

  • Any fan of any Hitchcock movie will be ecstatic about the chat between Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut about his the former’s artistry.

Spotlight, R

  • Reporters working for the Boston Globe uncover evidence of the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal.
