A Conversation with U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser

U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser is known for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. New Letters on the Air host Angela Elam talked with Kooser last month in Lincoln, Nebraska, just after he won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book Delights and Shadows.By Angela Elam

Ted Kooser is the first U.S. Poet Laureate to hail from the Great Plains. Kooser was born in Aimes, Iowa, and lives on an acreage near Garland, Nebraska, teaching in the English department of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A former insurance executive, he?s written 10 collections of poetry and has been described as a ?major poetic voice for rural and small town America.?
