Kansas City, MO – Not counting evening rush hour, construction of a new bridge-borne bike and walking path is slowing drivers' progress on half the Heart of America span. The daily restrictions will be in place through Friday, August 27.
It's only northbound and only part of the day, as the $2.9 million project takes shape, and Resident MoDOT Engineer Matt Killion has daily work stopping at 3 in the afternoon. In his words, " we've got work close by with The Paseo and the new bridge there. So we've done all we can to try and impact traffic in the least amount as possible."
Work is being financed by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Killion expects the 10-foot wide bike and pedestrian lane to be open in early October. It uses what had been a shoulder lane. Concrete barrier on one side, a tall fence on the river-side will give protection.
