Popular singing competition show American Idol is coming to Kansas City this summer. On July 21, the Idol tour bus will pull into the University of Missouri-Kansas City's Volker campus to hold open auditions for the show's 14th season.

In a press release, UMKC's Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Mel Tyler says Kansas City will be a natural fit for the show.

"We’re excited American Idol contacted us with this unique and fun opportunity,” Tyler said. “Not only could UMKC provide them with an iconic Kansas City setting with beautiful green space, but also a center of real performance talent."

The bus tour likely won't be as big as when American Idol visited Kansas City in 2008, but top contestants still have a chance to make it on the air.

Potential contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 28 and bring two forms of identification to participate. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and auditions will be held outside the Swinney Recreation Center.

If you'd like to try out, you can find more registration information on American Idol's website
