Record Snow And More Possibly On The Way

This snowstorm was a record-breaker, dumping the most snow Kansas City has ever seen on a February 21st.  Kansas City got 9.2 inches at KCI, but some towns in the area saw even more snow than that.

Belton and Leawood both got 11.5 inches; Roeland Park totaled 12 inches, and Overland Park received the most, some 13 and a half inches.

Storm Buries Kansas, Missouri, As It Heads East

The biggest winter storm this season is causing delays and cancellations, and has brought traffic to a near-standstill in the Plains and Midwest, but it's providing much-needed relief for drought-stricken farmers.

According to Weather Underground Chief Meteorologist Jeff Masters, Wichita has its fifth biggest snowfall on record.

Winter Storm Q has dumped up to 17 inches of windswept snow in parts of Kansas and Missouri and is expected to extend its reach well into the Midwest on Friday.

Snow Day: A Reporter's Notebook

A day of municipal mayhem is winding to a close.

The Kansas City Star’s Eric Adler writes that the whiteout of February 21, 2013 is a “100-year storm,” according to the record books. 

Many officials and citizens would probably agree.

The morning started with a snow dump. Some areas got several inches in several hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Major Winter Storm Hits KC Area With Up To 12 Inches Snow

Update Thursday 5:00 p.m. KCI remains closed, but officials report that first flights in and out are expected for 7 a.m. Friday. However, they are working to reopen the airport this evening.

In KCMO: “Phases I and II of the City’s Snow Ordinance remain in effect. As outlined in the Snow Ordinance, motorists parked on assigned Emergency Snow Routes face the possibility of vehicles being ticketed or towed. Vehicles without adequate tire tread that get stuck on a major thoroughfare can also be ticketed."
