Division II Baseball Teams Aim For World Series

Kansas City, MO – In college sports, Division II schools, like Emporia State and Central Missouri, will begin play in the NCAA baseball tournament Thursday. They're hoping to reach the Division II World Series, which this year will be held outside Raleigh, North Carolina.

Soon there might be a day when those schools will play in the Division II World Series close to home. KCUR's Greg Echlin explains.

Kansas City Royals Pitcher Biggest Story In Baseball

Zack Greinke, starting pitcher, Kansas City Royals

Kansas City, MO – The pitching of Kansas City Royals starter Zach Greinke has become the biggest story in baseball this month. Greinke is featured on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" magazine this week, the first time a Royals player has graced the cover since 1993. When Greinke took the mound last night, the home crowd anticipated history. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.

The Royals wrap up their four-game series against the Blue Jays Thursday afternoon.

MU And KU Advance To Sweet 16 In NCAA

Kansas City, MO – For the first time since 2002, both Missouri and Kansas are in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

In Boise, Idaho, the Missouri Tigers defeated Marquette, 83-79. So they'll move on to Glendale, Arizona, outside Phoenix. The Tigers will take on second-seeded Memphis this Friday.

The Kansas Jayhawks advanced after a 60-43 victory over Dayton in Minneapolis. KU will meet Michigan State this Friday in Indianapolis. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.

Nationally Ranked Teams, KU & MU, Meet In Columbia

Kansas City MO – For the first time in six years last (MON) night, Kansas and Missouri faced each other while both teams were nationally ranked. Kansas was ranked 16th in this week's Associated Press poll; Missouri was right behind at No. 17.

In Columbia, the Tigers squeezed out a 62-60 victory on alast second shot by Zaire Taylor. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.
