Historic Northeast Neighborhoods: People, Art, Food

As part of KCUR's Beyond Our Borders series, Central Standard met with a handful of residents of Kansas City's historic Northeast to hear about the people and projects shaping the future of that part of town. In particular, artist Hector Casanova told us about his project working with students to transform a boarded-up old school building in the neighborhood by treating its surfaces as a giant canvas.

Truancy Curfew Plan Revived

Kansas City councilman Scott Wagner forced a proposed truancy curfew out of limbo yesterday.  The council is now scheduled to vote on it in two weeks.

Final School Board Discussion On KCMO Closures

Kansas City, Mo. – Kansas City Missouri school district officials presented a final school closing proposal to the board and the public at a packed meeting at school district headquarters last night. The superintendent's final plan would close 26 school buildings, merging most middle and high schools, and move early childhood centers into elementary schools.
