A Johnson County judge issued a stern warning Wednesday to the man accused of killing three people last spring at the Jewish Community Center and Village Shalom.

A Johnson County judge won't let the accused Jewish Community Center shooter use his anti-Semitic world view to mount a legal defense at trial next month.

Updated, 5:15 p.m. Wednesday: The accused Jewish Community Center shooter was scolded by a judge Wednesday when he tried to ask several witnesses if they were Jewish at a pre-trial hearing.

Johnson County District Judge Thomas Kelly Ryan warned Frazier Glenn Cross Jr. that his anti-Semitic outbursts could be grounds for a mistrial once the jury is seated.

Most witnesses did not have to answer when Cross, who is representing himself, demanded to know if they were Jewish because the district attorney objected on the grounds of relevance.

On Kansas City stages during the holiday season, there's an abundance of shows with Christmas themes. Audiences can go from Kansas City Ballet's The Nutcracker to Kansas City Repertory Theatre's A Christmas Carol, with several other destinations in between.

The Tony-award winning musical "Avenue Q" satirizes children's television programs, like "Sesame Street." But it echoes the life lessons with a subversive twist. "Avenue Q" has its Midwest premiere at the Jewish Community Center.

The mission of the Jewish Community Center is this: "To serve people of all ages in an environment of Jewish values and Jewish traditions." So, what does that have to do with "Avenue Q" - an R-rated musical with full-puppet nudity?
