Sen. Moran Pushing For Travel Ban From West Africa

Kansas Republican Sen. Jerry Moran is pushing for a travel ban to stop people coming from west Africa into the United States. While visiting the University of Kansas Hospital, Moran said he hopes a travel ban could help stop the spread of Ebola from Africa.

Moran says there aren't currently any direct commercial flights from west Africa to the U.S. He says a travel ban would need to be a cooperative effort between the U.S. and countries that may send people from west Africa to America.

Kansas Senators Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts say funding for a federal lab to be built in Manhattan has passed an important hurdle.

The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, or NBAF, will study diseases that could be used to attack the nation's food supply. A Senate subcommittee voted earlier this week to approve more than $400 million for the lab.

Moran says that a full Senate committee has now also voted to approve the funding.

“It is a determining factor in NBAF’s future,” says Moran.

Moran Squeezes Past Tiahrt, Looks Forward To Johnston

With most of the votes counted, Kansas Congressman Jerry Moran had just shy of 50 percent to overcome Representative Todd Tiahrt's 45 percent. Two minor candidates split the rest.

"I'm honored by your enthusiasm," said Moran. "Let's take this enthusiasm and take it to November and restore America."

Only a few thousand votes separated the candidates at the end. Moran goes into November facing Democratic primary winner Lisa Johnston who is a dean at Baker University. Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
