St. Louis Company May Have Answer To Ending Meth Labs

Not many of us are chemists.

Yet by removing one oxygen atom, average people in Missouri regularly are turning common decongestants like Sudafed and Claritin-D into the illicit drug methamphetamine. Nationwide those explosive mom and pop meth labs cost taxpayers more than $23 billion a year in health care costs, child endangerment and clean-up. 

But a St. Louis pharmaceutical company may have the answer.

Questions Linger About Gas Company's Evacuation At JJ's

As several investigations continue into the explosion of JJ’s Restaurant, the role Missouri Gas Energy played in its response to the emergency is being questioned by experts and a witness who say the utility didn’t follow industry standards or its own advice.

Although its own safety instructions for gas leaks to its customers call for evacuating the premises immediately, MGE didn’t do that at the Feb. 19 incident. In fact, the MGE workers on the scene didn’t suggest that people leave the popular wine bar until 51 minutes after the initial 911 call.

Website Helps Companies Find Bilingual Employees

As Kansas City’s Spanish-speaking population increases, many industries are adapting by hiring more bilingual employees.  But how can they tell when someone is truly bilingual?  Gabe Munoz, and his partner Raul Duran launched a website late last year to assess the language abilities of bilingual job applicants, and help match them with employers.  So far, about 300 job seekers have signed on.  

Munoz spoke to KC Currents’ Susan Wilson about his start-up company, HireBilinguals.com.
